Monthly Potlucks… A Post about Hospitality & Blessings
A couple years ago, in the midst of everything going on, we felt led to start hosting regular get togethers. (With Grant’s disability & chronic back pain, it’s very hard for us to GO places. In our home, we have places that are comfortable for him to rest, he can change positions or stand/sit as needed, etc.)
This has turned into our hosting Monthly Potlucks & we keep hearing over & over how much others appreciate it, they love coming, they appreciate being invited even if they can’t come, etc.
I think what all those people don’t realize, is that it’s a blessing to US as well!! I was encouraged that this month we had 2 new families, even after doing it for almost 2 years! Plus a Grandma who was in town visiting a family who regularly comes…we met her on Thursday at our 4H meeting & invited her & she came, too!
The people that come are an eclectic group of friends that we’ve know for 2, 5, 10, 20 or more years & even some new new friends. Some even come from an hour away! Everyone leaves feeling refreshed (hopefully!), having enjoyed the fellowship, having the opportunity to meet new people & just talk and laugh together.
Our kids enjoy the fellowship of other kids. Our families enjoy visiting with other like minded families.
This is what the CHURCH is all about! A body of believers meeting together & encouraging one another.
I’m not trying to brag or pat us on the back…I’m sorry if it comes across that way.
My intent is solely to encourage….do what God is prompting you to do. You never know what it will lead to! Don’t let it feel too daunting! Do what works with where you’re at!
Host a get together. Have friends over. Show hospitality, whether you can accommodate 1 family or 3…. it’s not about the numbers, it’s about showing God’s love to others…. (sometimes when3 I look at the numbers of who’s coming, it feels a bit daunting. But once it comes down to it, we’ve never felt like there’s too many people here….it always works out. We always have more than enough food…)
…And being blessed in the process. I’m grateful. ❤
(If you live close by & have never been & want to come, please let me know! 😊)
