Actions vs Words

Earlier this week we had plans to go to a friend’s house for dinner. We were all really looking forward to it, but unfortunately at the last minute, due to my health limitations at this time, we had to postpone.

I was so blessed by my friend’s reaction. I know that it wasn’t as small a deal as she made it out to be, and she just handled it so graciously. She was very understanding and even took time to pray for me while we were on the phone. It just was really what I needed in that moment and I appreciated her gracious and understanding nature.

It reminded me a lot of what the Bible talks about regarding actions vs words. It’s easy to say the right thing or speak “Christian-ease”, so to speak, but I think it’s the most meaningful when you can really see a person’s Christ-like qualities in their actions.

This is what I saw this week in my friend as she blessed me. She even texted me the next day to see how I was doing. And I know that she has continued to pray for me.

I guess the point of my ramblings today are just that I would encourage us all to find ways to Imitate Christ in our actions. May our words & actions be Christ-like.

How has God blessed you recently? I would LOVE to hear your stories!

  • When our daughter was a baby, she was airlifted to Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago in serious condition. We stayed several days at the Ronald McDonald House nearby. One night we were informed that had a call on the “special phone” at the end of the hallway (before cell phones). I absolutely froze because that was the direct line to pediatric intensive care, and immediately we thought it was “the call”–you know, the one where someone on the other end says, “I’m sorry, but…” I just looked at my husband and, with a lump in my throat so large I couldn’t speak, I mouthed, “I can’t,” as I slowly shook my head. I remember thinking how brave my husband was as he headed down the hallway to take that call. (cont.)

  • When he said, “Hello?” and braced himself for the inevitable, he heard a soft, but confident voice say, “Hello Kevin. This is Vivian from church. We just want you to know we are praying for you.” My husband said he suddenly felt the warmth of hot oil being poured over his head, and it soothed his entire being from head to toe, and his heart, mind and spirit. Our daughter did eventually recover, and today she is happily married with a baby daughter of her own, but we have never forgotten that moment and the power of that prayer.

    • Wow, Sue, That is an amazing story! Thank you for sharing it! I love hearing stories like this where you just know & FEEL God’s presence. <3
