Our Anniversary Trip, Part 2
If you haven’t read Part 1, you can read it here: https://applehurst.com/our-anniversary-trip-part-1/
We ate at several new restaurants this week to celebrate our 20th anniversary. There are not very many “fine dining” restaurants near us, so (especially for our anniversary) we enjoy experiencing different restaurant experiences.
The timing of our trip coincided with a city wide Restaurant Week where many participating restaurants had special 3 course menu options available at a special price. The menus were more limited than usual, but it ended up costing much less than we had expected, which was a huge blessing. And we got to experience several new to us foods.
One restaurant in particular, called “Tornado”, we wanted to eat at because they offered some unique options like rabbit & frog legs. 🙂
Fun veggies at Tornado
We brought home some rabbit, duck & a “surprise” meat for the kids to try. We wanted the kids to try the meat before knowing what it was, and it was really fun. There were a lot of guesses as to what the meat was, but no one successfully guessed that it was in fact frog legs. There was quite a varied response to who liked it and who did not, but it was an overall very fun experience. And the rabbit & duck were a huge hit!
Frog legs! They had a fairly neutral taste, similar to chicken. Grant felt they were a bit “watery” tasting, but the preparation was very good. They were served in a orange sauce that was yummy
Duck breast – another new meat for us, none of us have ever had duck. Lizzy & Logan especially liked it.
Rabbit tenderloins. It was a favorite, very yummy & everyone loved it.More to come in Part 3.
