Learning from our children

Kids can teach us so much.

I love their ready smiles, their unbiased, unconditional love. The radiating joy.

The way their faces light up when they see you.

Their selfless, giving hearts (don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of selfishness also – we all do have a sin nature that rears it’s ugly head). But more often than not, I hear a child say “do you want some?” if someone comments on a special item they have – they are ready & willing to share.

Recently I was blown away by the selfless generosity of our 8 year old – He had been crocheting a blanket for months & had just finished it when a little boy came over to play & he gave this boy the blanket.

He loves to crochet & takes it with him everywhere – always crocheting during Bible time, in the car, while watching movies. He enjoys it. But I’ve also noticed how much he enjoys giving things away. Before he started making blankets (He is now working on a colorful one for his younger sister), he would make bracelets & necklaces, giving them to anyone he ran across.

Similarly, the 6 year old is doing the same now. So, if you come to visit, you will likely leave with some lovely new accoutrements. 🙂

(And if anyone has yarn laying around that you don’t want, yes, my kids can always use more yarn – it doesn’t last long around here – maybe we need to get sheep next.) 🙂
