Amazing Mashed Potatoes
Sometimes I have an idea for a blog post, and want to take pictures to include, but then we eat all the food before I can take pictures….yup. This happens all the time. 🤔😬😂
So, instead of putting this post off again, I’ll share a picture of what’s left 🤣 Yum!
I know everyone has their favorite way to make mashed potatoes, but I will share OUR favorite.
Peel, wash & quarter how many ever potatoes you need (we usually do 15-20 standard medium sized potatoes because that’s enough for our large family, company and/or leftovers…usually!)
Always start potatoes in cold, salted water. It’s tempting to use hot water so it boils faster, but trust me on this, it’s worth it! (I often prep the potatoes ahead of time & let them sit in the covered pot until it’s time to turn them on).
While the potatoes are cooking, I warm up the milk & butter mixture so that it doesn’t cool down the potatoes when they are mixed together. For 15 potatoes, I use 1 1/2 Cups of milk & 1/2-1 stick of butter (how rich do you want them?) 😊 AND…
The secret to yummy tasting mashed potatoes??…
Bouillon! I use 6 BOUILLON cubes, or the equivalent if using powder. Mash them up in the warm milk/butter mixture.
Once the potatoes are fork-tender, drain them & mix in your warm milk/butter mixture.
**The family also loves garlic mashed potatoes, especially if we aren’t having gravy. If we want to make garlic mashed potatoes, we add about 1 1/2 tsp of garlic powder.**
What’s your favorite way to serve mashed potatoes? Cheese? Sour cream & chives? There are so many ways! 😊
I make mashed potatoes in a very similar way. However, when we have friends who are lactose intolerant I have made mashed potatoes using chicken broth instead of milk and butter. Delicious!
Neat! Thanks for sharing! I did one time make them with chicken broth that I was trying to use up (from our chickens). 🙂
