“Having the Old Mom Back” – A Health Update
It has been a few months since I’ve updated, so I just wanted to share how I’m doing.
I am doing pretty well, overall. There are days I still wake up & am just in a lot of pain & don’t feel well. The past 2 weeks I’ve had headaches & migraines every single day. Not really sure why, but, again, it’s part of the disease. It’s normal to just have periods of not feeling well for an unexplained reason.
But, thankfully those are less often than they used to be. I have more energy than I’ve had in who knows how long! I do have to be careful, because it’s very easy to overdo it. I am sleeping relatively well about 4-5 days a week now. I’m very thankful.
A few weeks ago I was grocery shopping with Xanna & she looked at me & said, “You’re like the old Mom again!” It brought tears to my eyes. Yes! So very grateful. ❤
My thyroid seems to have stabilized after 4 months of increasing meds, so I’m ok for a couple months & then will recheck. We will also be rechecking my Selenium & a few other labs in the next couple months. (As a side note, we found out this week from my Dr that it is not uncommon for women in this area to be high in Selenium as our soil is rich in it…. interesting. Most are not as toxically high as I was, however. Lexa’s labs showed she is high in it also – more on that tomorrow. It is challenging finding multivitamins that don’t have any selenium in them!)
Now that I have spent the past 4 months building up my immune system, hopefully healing my gut & stabilizing my thyroid, I get to start treating the Babesia & tick-borne illnesses. One of the new medications for that can affect your heart, so I have to get a baseline EKG done this week & then have another one done after week 1 of treatment is over. I am excited to begin this next phase of treatment.
However, I have been told to be prepared to have some days of flu-like symptoms as the disease is dying off. Not looking forward to that, but thankful for what it represents. And a good friend who has been down a similar path gave me several ideas to help lessen the symptoms. So, we’ll see what happens! I’m trying to prepare foods before I start just in case I don’t feel well enough to cook.
