Camping Spring 2021

Grant supervised the boys camping this past week. Even though it got down to about 30 degrees overnight, they did a great job & had a blast!

They worked all day on setting up camp. (We have tents, but they “built” their own structure using tarps & brush.) Poor Lucas got poison ivy, but he’s a trooper & they’re looking forward to camping more in the next few months!

They out a tarp down on the bottom, staked out with guide lines, ran a Ridgeline, threw a tarp over the Ridgeline & stakes it out with guide lines. Then Lucas placed leaves & forest debris along the edges while Logan cut branches to make a log wall for the back wall. They put down poly pads, then laid out Lucas’s sleeping bag on the bottom & zipped 2 more sleeping bags together on top of it. It kept them warm!
Logan & Lucas took turns using a scotch eye auger to make a “rocket” fire log
The “rocket” fire log (helps with cooking, can be moved closer to camp, etc)
Cooking some hot dogs for lunch – Logan built a reflector wall behind the fire pit. He’ll be working on covering it with clay in the future
The girls & I went to visit at dinner time (with some supplies)
