Child Training vs Dumbing Kids Down

A few weeks ago, we were doing some shopping at Costco after a Doctor appointment & I saw a 2 or 3 year old little girl riding in the shopping cart. The little girl was mesmerized by something she was watching on Mom’s phone. It is something I see every single time I go shopping & it breaks my heart!

We have become so lazy that we let our kids watch TV even while we are shopping!?! Not to mention DVD players in vehicles becoming the norm. I know, don’t get me started!

It just makes me sad. We have stopped training our children to sit quietly in the cart while we are shopping & instead we are just dumbing them down by stupid TV. And I don’t even want to go down the path of what is being watched. 😫

Yes, it takes time to train children. Yes, sometimes it is HARD to get shopping done with young children. But it is SO worth it!

I’m not saying it’s wrong for kids to watch TV….we watch our fair share (more than I’d like, but it’s also a season). We are very choosy about what we watch. I just feel like we are missing opportunities by shoving a phone into a toddler’s hands instead of using it as a training opportunity & teaching our kids about what’s really important.

This isn’t even limited to TV watching, there is so much programming in today’s society that kids are being inundated by. It is one of the main reasons we have chosen to homeschool. And why why we got rid of “TV” so many years ago – we get no channels, so what we watch is either DVD or streaming. The commercials are a huge problem.
