Growing/Harvesting Potatoes

We tried 2 new & different methods of growing potatoes this year.

One method was a no till straw bale method. You put straw down, plant/bury the potatoes in the straw & that’s it! Then it’s super easy to harvest also, no digging!

The second method was using stacks of tires. Put a tire down, fill it with soil, plant the potatoes & as it grows taller, you keep adding more tires & soil. When you’re ready to harvest, you take the tires off & find the potatoes! Again, no digging!

Unfortunately we didn’t get a great crop this way because we used the wrong fertilizer, but it’s a learning process & we’ll balance the soil better for next year. 😀
