Jocko Willink’s books

For Grant’s birthday, we bought him one of Jocko Willink’s books that he had been wanting. He really has loved the book & shared it with friends. He had been listening to Jocko online for a while. While Jocko doesn’t specifically talk about Christ, he talks a lot about Christian principles & his books are very clean. Jocko Willink is a retired Navy SEAL commander & motivational speaker.

We then bought the kids books & our family has really enjoyed them all.

If you are interested in checking them out, here is a list of the books & a little blurb about them.

  1. Discipline Equals Freedom: Field Manual is a short, easy to read book. It is an excellent book about motivation & solid Biblical principles written in an easy to understand, “secular” way. It talks a lot about honor & doing the right thing (what we, as Christians, would call righteousness). Getting up & doing what needs to be done, even if you don’t really feel like it. It is phenomenally motivational.
  2. Way of the Warrior Kid is book 1 in an illustrated series geared towards a younger audience (maybe junior high). Grant wishes he had had these type of motivational books when he was growing up instead of the “I’m ok, you’re ok” nonsense. In the book, Marc’s Uncle who is a Navy SEAL comes to visit & teaches him how to be a warrior. The novel is easy to read & funny.
  3. Marc’s Mission: Way of the Warrior Kid is book 2 in the series. It takes place a year after the first book and Marc has to deal with a bully. Marc learns that being a warrior is not only about physical strength, but also about inner strength as he learns to control his temper.
  4. Way of the Warrior Kid III, Where There’s a Will… is book 3 in the series. It takes place one year after the last & in this book Marc struggles with comparing himself to another kid. In this book he learns that where there’s a will, there’s a way – by working hard, training hard, and getting over his own ego.
  5. Mikey And the Dragons is a picture book about a young prince who has to protect a kingdom from dragons. He learns that his fears aren’t quite as big as they seem. Beautiful illustrations & written in rhyme. Helps children learn to get over their fears & anxiety.
