Making the Most of Your Time

A single friend asked me many years ago – “How do you get it all done? I can’t seem to get everything done and I am only responsible for myself!”

Here are just a few tips I use regularly to make the most of my time. I won’t say that I get it all done, because the truth is that I don’t. But, we get done what’s important and let go of the rest.

  • If you have a few minutes in the kitchen while cooking – waiting for the water to boil, microwave to be done (you would be surprised at how much you can accomplish in even 60 seconds!!), etc – instead of just standing around waiting (or – let’s be real – checking something on your phone??), you can: wash the counter; wash or prep fruits/veggies; wipe down the sink; wash a few dishes, tidy up a room or counter, make a grocery list or meal plan, get meat out of the freezer for the next day, even switch laundry, etc…
  • Make lists. It makes it so much easier to prioritize & there is a sense of accomplishment in marking things off the list! 😊 This also helps you to not miss anything important.
  • Have 5 minutes? You can wipe down a bathroom, sweep, vacuum a room, etc.
  • Are you talking on the phone? You can tidy up a room while talking, sort laundry, work on meal prep, etc. Finding ways to multitask can make a big difference.
  • Watching a movie? What can you do while watching? Sort & fold laundry, pick up a room, etc.
  • Laundry – we start a load first thing every morning (except Sunday). We have found that this is the best way to stay on top of the laundry monster. That way if you need to do multiple loads, there can be time.

I will say that sometimes the more you have to do, the easier it can be to stay on track. If I have a “lazy” day with not a whole lot needing to be done, it’s easy to just not accomplish anything!

Don’t get me wrong, rest is important, too, but all I’m trying to show is that there are “hidden” moments in a day & if you’re struggling to get things done, here are some tips. 🙂

Do you have any tips I may have missed? I’d love to hear them.
