Ogle County 4H Fair 2022 – Judging Results Part 1

Ogle County 4H Fair 2022 – Judging Results Part 1

I did not take pictures of the kids with their short stories (Lizzy, Keira & Lucas wrote stories)… the egg decorating and Poultry Showmanship weren’t judged until Friday, so I’ll share them in the next post, perhaps also the short stories if the kids will agree to that. 😊

I will also plan to share better, up-close pictures of the projects at a later time. The bathroom renovation project post is coming, hopefully next week also.

We have such wonderful bakers in the house…what a blessing! With 8 projects to juggle & bake all in one morning, we had a lot of leftover goodies (not to mention the practice ones…) It was a blessing to drop some off at several neighbors’ houses on our way to the judging, as well as taking some to our Doctor’s office, Fair volunteers & local Fire fighters & policemen. ❤️

Emma with her coffeecake (bottom left). Her first year in the Fair & she only did 2 projects, but got blue ribbons on both! Good job, Emma!
Emma with her crocheted octopuses (one blue, one white). She loves to crochet & made several things she thought about submitting (including a necklace for a pendant she had), but finally decided on the white octopus she made (no pattern) & crocheted the blue one on the way to judging to go with it!! 😁
Lucas with his “rich chocolate cake” (top shelf, to the left of the light purple ribbon)
Lucas with his jackpot drop cookies (oatmeal chocolate chip cookies) (bottom left w/ the blue ribbon)
Lucas with his crocheted project – he was working on some crocheted dice, but didn’t like how they turned out, so made this orange “pen holder” to go on a belt (displayed on a belt with a pen in it)
Lucas’s wood project – he carved a pencil out of wood & painted it
Lucas with his rocket (the one on the left right next to him), which he got high praise for! 😁
Lucas with his guinea pig poster (right above him)
Keira with her Horse Poster (on the bottom, says “HORSE CARE”)
Keira with the picture she took for photography (A great picture! But the competition is always very stiff for photography!)
Keira with a butterfly feeder she made… she took a clay pot & saucer, painted them, glued them together upside down, painted it & glued rocks on it
Keira with her tea ring she made – she earned Champion for it!
Keira with her Lemon Golden Sponge Cake – she earned Reserve Champion!
Keira with her peanut butter cookies (back of the bottom shelf, directly above her thumb)
Logan with his cinnamon rolls (bottom left)
Logan with his French bread – he earned Champion!! It was his first year ever making anything with yeast, he picked it up very quickly & made some fabulous looking & smelling breads! (Being GF has been really hard this week!! I LOVE fresh homemade breads, but I’m very proud to say I didn’t even taste a nibble!! I don’t always have the best self control with “cheating” on foods, so it is a big deal) 😉 A neighbor called & raved over his cinnamon rolls!
Logan with his picture he took – bottom left
Logan with the stump he woodburned
Logan with his Bull Shark poster. I do have to say…we do not argue with the judges & support their decisions, but, their judging sheet for this project only said positive comments, nothing negative at all, no constructive criticism, he got all “meets expectations” or higher…. this really should have been a blue ribbon. I am not trying to criticize or be one of “those Moms”…but seeing all the other judging sheets that have lower marks & ways to improve, it just doesn’t add up…. We do appreciate all the judges who volunteer their time! (After talking to a couple volunteers, we think likely he got dinged because I put him in the wrong category, they didn’t feel this poster fit into the Natural Resources category…too bad!)
Lizzy with her interior design poster…she remodeled a bathroom! Can’t wait to share more pictures with you (post to come next week). The transformation is amazing! I’m so proud of her & glad she did so well on it & learned a lot. She earned Reserve Grand Champion, Top of Class & is a State Delegate (she can take this project to the State Fair) (FYI…we’re planning on removing more wallpaper & painting other areas of the house this fall…very excited!!)
Lizzy with her archery poster…she knows so much & just ran out of time to do more, but still did an excellent job!
Lizzy with her Bicycle project – she earned Grand Champion & Top of Class!
Lizzy with her Cat Colorations poster…she earned Top of Class!
Lizzy with her wood project…she carved this out of a 2×4!! I know it’s hard to see. I’ll share more detailed pictures another time. It’s a small black piece of wood that looks sort of like an hourglass, but with 3 moving balls inside! Very impressive!!
Lizzy with her Collectables project – she has a bunch of plants & took them as her collectables project (this is a sampling of them, I’ll share more pictures of the entire project…) She earned Reserve Grand Champion!
