Processing & Canning Apples August 2022

Processing & Canning Apples August 2022

With our apple trees, it’s been different every year how many apples we get…it seems to be affected mainly by the weather in the Spring. The past few years we haven’t gotten very many apples, but this year we have quite a few, which we’re thankful for.

We had a free day recently, so we decided to take advantage of it & can some apple products.

Logan, Keira, Lucas,
& Emma went out & gathered some apples (& a few pears – lower right). It made a lot more than I expected!
Lucas processed this apple – it all stuck together like a corkscrew!
Ellie eating some apple “worms”…I don’t remember when exactly we started calling them worms, but sometime in the past 10 years…the apple skins
Logan was cutting the apple slices in half, Ellie was placing the slices on the dehydrator trays, Emma & Lucas were peeling/coring/slicing the apples
Can’t resist cute Ellie pictures 😍
Keira, Lizzy & I were working on all the peppers that Lizzy grew in the garden, coring & slicing them all so we could pickle & can them
A group shot of everyone working hard together ❤️
6 qts of apple pie filling
Some of the applesauce, we canned 27 qts!
Pickled Nadapenos, Pickled Banana Peppers & Pickled Pepperoncinis (applesauce in the background)

Not pictured: a whole 9-tray dehydrator full of dried apples!
