Learning to be FLeXibLE

God has been teaching me a lot lately about being flexible. All of yesterday was spent on a crisis that came upon suddenly & overwhelmingly.

Today was busy from the get go and yet I was so determined to build in “mandatory play time as an ENTIRE FAMILY” (yes, I really said that. Yes, some kids balked. Yes, I forced. Yes, I’m the “Mean mom” (I am glad to be mean in ways that count).

Why? Because a child that hasn’t hardly smiled in days LAUGHED while we were swimming. That is WHY. (And only part of it….EVERYONE was laughing & having fun). Why I do what I do. When I’m too tired to see straight. When I don’t feel that I can do any more. When I don’t feel like I’m doing any good.

So I’m learning to breathe a bit slower, make myself accept that it’s OK to eat an hour later than usual tonight. It’s ok that everything on my list didn’t get done. It’s ok to change things up. It’s good to laugh. Sometimes you just need to say, “Thank you, Lord, for this day, such as it is!” And be thankful that it’s not worse. Because tomorrow it might be.
