Life Update/A New Season Pt 2

Life Update/A New Season Pt 2

If you haven’t already read it, you can start here with a “quick” update about the past few crazy years! 🙂 http://applehurst.com/life-update-a-new-season-pt-1/

Since the 4 school aged kids are now in school, I also took a part time job working in the cafeteria at the grade/middle school (where Emmalynn & Ellenor are)… I work 2-3 days a week & it’s a blessing to have the same schedule as the kids!! The ladies I work with are a blessing as well! I enjoy being known as “The Lunch Lady” 🤩 We NEVER do thimgs small…so, of course, we also joined the Boosters Club (Grant & I)- so we help at the concession stands during some home games/events. It’s been a great way to meet other families. I also enjoy seeing some of the kids (mainly the younger kiddos – their eyes are so expressive) recognize me outside of the cafeteria.

The older 3 kids are also doing sports – Keira is in volleyball and Lucas & Emmalynn are doing cross country. They have been enjoying it!!

A few pictures from the first week of school & sports pics 🙂

Me with Ellie & Emma on the first day of school
Ellie on the 1st day of 2nd grade
Emmalynn on the first day of 7th grade
1st day of school
Keira & Lucas on the first day of school – at the High School (Keira is a Junior & Lucas is a Freshman)
One of the ladies I work with gave me this fun sticker for my water bottle… It’s fun being “The Lunch Lady!” 🙂
A welcome gift for new employees (not the sticker)… it’s fun being in a Dutch town… some things like these Dutch mints remind me of living in Suriname in the 90s… Suriname had a lot of Dutch influence as well (it used to be called Dutch Guinea until 1975)

I enjoyed going on a field trip with Ellie’s class last week – we went to the local retirement home & the kids each got to read a book that they brought to the residents. That’s special!! I also got to be a secret reader & read a book to her class… I loved that!! Her teacher has a really cool Smiley Face rug (you can see it in this next picture) & a super fun rocking chair that is painted to look like notebook paper (the seat) and pencils/crayons (the spindles) & it matches the colors of her rug. Such a fun space & her teacher is doing such fun things with them!!

The 2nd Day of 2nd Grade!!
Emmalynn with her middle school cross country team
I love this picture of Emmalynn!! I braided her hair for picture day. She’s getting to be so grown up!!
So proud of the improvement each of our kids is making… Lucas earned this award for the most personal improvement at a recent meet… what you can’t see is that he shaved an entire minute off his previous best time (from the week before)…AND they were running in MUD!!! It rained several days & all morning long before they ran.
The mud the kids ran in!!!! Lucas (and the 3 brave souls that went to watch him) came home COVERED in mud… so proud of them all for their endurance & perseverance!!
Keira is enjoying being on the Volleyball team!! I love this picture as it captures her fun personality!! 🤩
Keira – ready for her first game!!
