Making God our Rock
I was listening to a Christian radio station this morning while eating my breakfast & was struck by a comment. They were raising money, & telling stories of how the music & station changed lives, etc…
But then they said something about them (the radio station) wanting to be the rock in people’s lives, getting them through hard times, etc.
And I’m crying, No! Why are we not steering people to God to be our Rock!?
It’s great to listen to Christian music and keep your mind on God and while it might be a useful tool in your toolbox, it should not BE your toolbox. There is a difference.
Lean on God FIRST to get you through the Hard times! Yes, play Christian music, by all means! But seek God FIRST!
It is so frustrating for me when people are being led astray this way. Early in our marriage, I was again listening to the Christian radio station & the DJ was asking people to call & tell what the most annoying thing about their spouse is. I was MAD! I called & really gave him an earful!
If we focus on the negative, you will breed more negativity. If you focus on the positive, you will breed more positivity. If you are looking for ways that your spouse annoys you, you will surely find them! And it will spin you down a negative spiral that is unnecessary.
Instead – choose to find things to be thankful for about another person – your spouse, sibling, coworker – whomever you might be frustrated with. Do this instead of finding fault & you will be pleased with the results!

I so agree with you Martha! I have a 45 minute drive to work and home each cay and I often listen to Christian music radio. But especially during fundraising time, conversation often goes to what the radio station has done for you – not what God has done for you through the radio station. During those times, I often turn to a different radio station (like NPR) or make sure I have an audio book in the car to listen to.
Thanks for commenting! Good idea!
