Making hospitality a priority

We had an incredibly busy week, but had previously made plans for dinner guests the night before our 2 day trip and weekend guests coming the day after we got home. It was important to us to keep those commitments, and we really do love & enjoy the fellowship.

I reminded us of this as we were weary & trying to get as much done in the 2 hours we had this morning – the nice thing about having guests is that you get to sit around & visit and not worry about the work that needs to be done. Just as it’s important to REST on Sunday, it’s important to build REST times into our daily lives & schedules. There definitely needs to be a balance – I’m not advocating for just resting all the time & ignoring work. There definitely are times that it’s important to push through and do what needs to be done, but I have found, at least for myself and my family, that we do better when we do not overdo it everyday.

So today I’m reminded of the importance of just letting some things go… We are not all unpacked from our trip. I did not cook dinner. Everything on the list did not get done. But, that’s ok. We are enjoying the fellowship, the relaxing, swimming, games, etc. We are thankful for the time. (And I promise to get back to our Springfield trip posts tomorrow, I have a bunch of pictures to share). 🙂

I’m not saying all this to brag or make you think I have it all together… Just trying to encourage you. You can do it. It’s not that hard. Give Grace, simplify. Enjoy the time.

God does not want us to spread ourselves too thin. Take the time to be a Mary – sit and soak it all in, enjoy the relaxation, the fellowship, visit. Let go of the Martha that says the house has to be in perfect order and meals have to be complex and homemade.
