Mom Hack – Making Extra Dinner

We often make big meals. It does take a little extra time to make a double (or quadruple as we often do) batch of something, but it’s still worth it in the long run. We like to have leftovers for lunches, and it makes it easy to accommodate guests or have extra to take to a family that could use it. The church we have been a part of the past few years has a wonderful Helps Ministry that takes meals to families who have just had a baby, gone through surgery, or for whatever reason just need a meal. Actually, all of the 3 churches we have attended the past 20 years have had some time of meal ministry like this.

We have been so blessed over the years with many loving, gracious families bringing us a meal after we lost a loved one or welcomed a new baby into our family. Today we get to take a meal to a friend who just had a baby. What a blessing! It’s exciting for the whole family to help prepare the meal & bag of goodies to drop off.

So, we made a huge batch of my Grandma’s fried rice, enjoyed ours for lunch & this afternoon are taking a tray of it to a friend. (I do recognize that not everyone has a flexible schedule like we do, do what works for your family!)

I would encourage you to take the opportunities to make a little extra and either invite someone over to enjoy it with you, or take some to someone you know who could use it, or just have some for leftovers to bless your family (I know not every family appreciates leftovers…I’m sorry for you!!). I don’t do this every day. There are days we just don’t have time & need a quicker meal, but I do try to build in to our week at least a couple “big” meals that will include leftovers/extras.
