Belated Anniversary Getaway

Grant & I try to get away once a year for our anniversary. In years past we have enjoyed going to Madison, about 2 hours away…far enough, but not too far. 😀

This year we ended up going to Chicago for 2 nights, 3 days (a long story). It was definitely a lot different than Madison! Other than traffic & parking, we really enjoyed our time.

Our first lunch in town happened to be our favorite restaurant & food of our getaway! We ate at Gibson Italia on the river & really enjoyed the food & atmosphere quite a bit.

Filet sliders with truffle butter & seasoned fries…mmm
Grant’s massive burger & fries
I loved the steak knives! They had a pretty curve & the restaurant’s name engraved on it
Grant’s drink had an actual juniper sprig in it! Never seen that before (he said it was really good also)
At Gibsons Italia
The building Gibson’s was in…so tall!!
Pretty sculpture & buildings
At the riverfront in Chicago…probably the only time you’ll ever see a picture of us there 😉
Draw bridge on the river is raised
Riverboats

We stayed at The Palmer House…a historic old hotel with lots of character.

The “waiting” area at the elevators….there were different banks of elevators for each group of floors, so you had to make sure to get on the right elevator! 😀
The view from our room on the 20th floor. You can see a neat rooftop “lounge”
Each floor has a Mail slot! (Hard to see in the picture, but it’s clear so you can see your letter go down the chute). How fun!
A random short door in the hall…I was curious, but didn’t open it to see what it was 😀
Each floor has a linen & rubbish chute in the stairwell..
We were given a credit for the restaurant at the hotel, so we ate dinner there one night
The “restaurant” at the Palmer Hotel…. straight ahead at the end of this room is the infamous “Empire Room” that was in use until the early 1970’s. Each of the hallways by the bedrooms are lined with black & white pictures of the performers & what year they performed. The ceiling is so majestic!
We ate lunch at Kinzie Chophouse on the way out of Chicago & they made us this special dessert. 😊 (The food was really good there also!)
