Delayed Anniversary Getaway Part 2

Delayed Anniversary Getaway Part 2

If you haven’t seen Part 1, you can read it here:

I enjoy trying new foods, restaurants, etc & this restaurant is very unique & very highly rated. It’s a very small, 12 person (6 right now with social distancing) restaurant that does a unique tasting menu. Basically it means the chef decides what to cook & they just keep bringing you small plates of food. (You pay a set price for the evening.)

10 years ago Grant, Susie & I went to The French Room in Dallas & it was a similar style – you pay a set price & can choose between a couple different options of small plates that keep coming throughout the evening. The French Room had delicious food & was a fun experience, definitely the fanciest restaurant we’ve ever eaten at, where they put your napkins in your lap for you, etc… Far superior to this Madison experience.

It was a very…. different experience. Yes, we got to try many different/unique foods. Would we go back? No.

The music was loud & obnoxious, vulgar, etc. And the chef basically said it’s either that or they would play “Let it Go” on a loop the whole time if we didn’t like their taste in music. (And who wants to be those people?)

The service was good, we had full water glasses all night. They brought out fresh silverware for each course. I got the wine pairing with the dinner & I’m glad I did. It was fun to try tastes of different wines & see how they paired with the foods.

They have a kaffir lime tree & some different herbs growing in the front window.
The menu
First course – heirloom tomatoes in a tasty sauce made from the tomato vine & kaffir lime. I am not a huge tomato fan (I like tomatoes in things, just not whole…weird, I know), but I did really enjoy the sauce (& I ate several tomatoes, aren’t you proud!) 😉
A pumpkin blossom filled with a sweet corn & crab concoction.
A bean with bacon soup made with green beans! Topped with whipped cream.
Probably the only course Grant finished 😃
I have never had a salad quite like this! There were about 5 different types of cucumbers/ pickles, a cucumber dill vinaigrette on the bottom, topped with dill pollen salt & dill chips. Can you see the tiny melon looking cucumbers?
This was a risotto type rice with beets, cheese & hazelnuts. Topped with fried rosemary
Quail with pate, Elderberry jelly & pickled green Elderberries.
Fancy silverware placement
Beef with their take on a caesar salad…see the rolled up anchovy? 😲
Fish boil…a piece of cod with tiny potatoes, corn, celery & a lot of butter & a fish broth
A fancy goat cheese with a rhubarb jelly square & a flax/sesame seed “cracker”
Ground cherries, pecans, a tomatillo “granita” (basically it’s frozen, then shaved with a fork to look like shaved ice)
Chocolate zucchini cake, zucchini ice cream
White chocolate bark with a gummy cherry candy
A cookie with salt & pepper served on a marble coaster
The ceiling was so pretty!
They had a huge rack of cookbooks in the basement!

It’s a little interesting to me, as I’m thinking about how I did a long post about this restaurant that we really didn’t care for, but we went for the experience & it’s definitely an experience we won’t forget. 🙂
